This month...(September)

The air is crisp, the breeze lingers, fall is coming. How do you do it, Lord? How do you rush it in softly? How do you combine two seasons so that it transitions into one? How do you decide when it's time?

You think of the harvest, you think of what needs to grow. We take what you give and make beautiful things out of them. Pumpkin pie, apple pie, butternut squash soup, and pumpkin pudding. We are ready for the harvest.

In September I was reminded of God's promises. His promises to people in the Bible, his promises to the people around me, his promises to me.

One promise that really sums up September is John 14:14, "If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it."

That promise keeps me cautious. Whenever I use His name, He's listening. He waits. When we ask in His name, He can't Help Himself but do it.

Praying in Jesus' name reminds us that we're not in this season alone, He goes with us, He's by our side, and He strengthens us, comforts us, and brings His peace.

1 John 5:14-15 says, "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him."

Jesus is just waiting for us to ask. How many times do we wait until someone asks us, whether for help or insight, that we do it graciously because we have been waiting to be asked?

A fun moment from September was winning a giveaway by author Debbie Macomber of her new book, A Mrs. Miracle Christmas! Have you read any of her books? I like to pick up one of her books when I'm looking for a fun, heart-warming, and encouraging read. Reading her books is like watching a Hallmark movie. In fact, some of her books have actually been adapted into Hallmark movies! I received this autographed copy with a note from Debbie that read, 2 Timothy 1:7. I was shocked because just that weekend I was studying that scripture. The Lord can speak to us in surprising ways, I love to see those surprises.
