The best search engine
What is it that you seek?
What is it that you're searching for?
As you scroll up and down, swipe left to right.
The repeating images and videos disappoint you so that you're left to discover more strangers to admire.
Do you search for entertainment? For something new and exciting?
To then do what? Compare and feel bored with your life?
You lose focus. You lose time. You lose intimacy.
I asked myself these questions one night and wondered as I anxiously opened my Instagram app. I remember when I first installed the app. I was obsessed! I loved the pretty pictures and inspiration. But I recently realized that I would open these "social" apps to fill a void of boredom or anxiety. That night I finally stopped to ask: what am I really searching for?
It's fine to look into social media apps for an update; to check on a friend or family member. Yet, we all get tied up in needing a constant update and even look on to repeating images. We're trapped in this pattern that slows us down in our daily lives.
I'm talking about the aimless scroll and search. I'm talking about looking with eyes of lust and covetousness. When your emotions move like a roller coaster and you forget where you are.
You add on to this appetite for anything new or emotionally stimulating.
Romans 12:2 says "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
We need to protect our minds. We put our minds through a lot. With our emotions, thoughts, wonders, questions, ideas, dreams, and so much more. It's a huge part of us that works with the heart to express who we are and what's going on inside of us. We have a normal instinct to wonder, to search. Searching online for something seems simple and easy, but that just leaves us with so many results.
There's never just one direct answer, there is a plethora of answers. But, one search engine that never fails to give you the right answers in the most direct way is in meditation with God, Holy Spirit, and Jesus.
Searching and exploring in His presence not only brings peace, but a peace that surpasses all understanding. This way you can renew your mind. It's a constant refresh, that won't bring you back to where you once were.
Do you have the same thoughts everyday? The same worries? The same to-do list? That's not renewing; that won't transform you. That's keeping you stuck as the same person with the same problems and the same mind-set.
You have two options to do with your mind: allow it to conform to this world or allow it to be renewed. To conform is to follow along to what's trending, to conform is to be the same. Do you want to have the same thoughts as everyone else?
Be transformed.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 4:7
May my mediation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.
— Psalm 104:34
Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
— Colossians 3:9-10
