Devotional thoughts: Psalm 25

"To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul." (1)

When we put our trust in the Lord, we're giving our lives over to Him. We set aside our own agendas, our own expectations; we surrender all control and trust Him and His perfect will.

"O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous." (2&3)

Disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. No one who trusts in the Lord will ever be disgraced.

"Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long." (4&5)

When we go to God about our plans or direction in the future, He doesn't always just tell us what's going to happen. It's not about knowing what's going to happen, but to know how to follow Him. To learn how to live a good life by following His ways. We're not meant to wait idly by; but to go on His path.

"Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies." (8-10)

God even shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His way. Yet, all the paths of the Lord are full of steadfast love and faithfulness. He always and only leads with unfailing love and faithfulness (for those who keep His covenant and obey his demands).

"Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you." (20&21)

While we wait, may integrity and uprightness preserve us. Integrity and uprightness; honesty in the waiting.

Psalm 27:13-14 then promises:

"I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!"

In the words of Johnnyswim, “I don’t know what’s coming, but I know it’s going to be good.”
