July 2020 Reading List

Welcome to July!

We have now reached the half way point of 2020 and some months have felt like a blur. But beaches are opening up and some of us have an outdoor pool, so let's get our "beach reads" ready! Here are my recommendations for a quick beach read:

Non-fiction
"I'll Tell You In Person" by Chloe Caldwell
*I read my copy for free on Prime Reading
If you like hearing stories from a girlfriend with a crazy life, you would love this book of personal essays. I enjoy reading personal essays because the writer is more vulnerable and willing to expose even unflattering details from past experiences. Caldwell's essays made me laugh at the right parts and even gave me some moments of nostalgia with her pop culture references.

Fiction
"An American Marriage" by Tayari Jones
*I read my copy for free on Libby app
Love, heartbreak, pain, and hope. What a love story told throughout the years. I loved the writing and the characters. You will keep this book by your side every time you're planning to sit for long periods of time.

Memoir
"Miracles and Other Reasonable Things: A Story of Unlearning and Relearning God" by Sarah Bessey
*I purchased my hardcover copy
It's because of her honesty and poetic writing that Sarah Bessey is one of my favorite writers. This book was such a breath of fresh air, I felt calm and at peace while reading this book. It's part theology and part memoir, but it isn't dense.

These are my recommendations for July reading! Tell me in the comments if you have already read any of these books, or if you're planning on it!
