A Different Will

"On a hill You created
The light of the world
Abandoned in darkness to die"
So Will I (100 Billion X) Hillsong UNITED

Jesus experienced the full wrath of God on the cross, including His abandonment. But God abandoned Jesus on the cross so He would never have to do that to us. Jesus took our place, while He suffered and died for our sins.

Of course, Jesus resurrects and fulfills the new covenant God made for us to be reconciled to Him, but Jesus had to put aside His own will first in order for this to happen. During His prayer at Gethsemane He was afraid to go, He was afraid for himself.

"And he said, 'Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.'" Mark 14:36 ESV

Jesus' will was different from the Father's, at the moment He had a different desire. We can sometimes be fully on board for what God calls us to do until we're finally at that place, where we need to take the final step. We still have a choice to go forward or not.

Although Jesus struggled, He went to God for help. He pleaded with Him, to help Him, to make a new way. But He knew His God, He knows His Father, and He knew that His will was bigger, even bigger than him.

If you feel this tension in your heart of moving forward with something, what is the big picture God wants you to focus on instead?
